Operation Santa delivers gifts to 250

DERBY — The lobby at the Orleans County Sheriff’s Department was decorated for Christmas Friday.  In addition to a tree with a couple of wrapped boxes beneath, a table full of goodies hinted at a celebration to come.

The building was filled with chatting groups of law enforcement officers in a wide range of uniforms, at least one in civilian attire. It was time for the eleventh edition of Operation Santa where officers from the Sheriff’s Department, State Police, Border Patrol, and Newport City Police Department fan out to every public school in Orleans County in cruisers filled with gifts.
