Fishing hole encounter leads to attempted murder charge

NEWPORT — Newport City Police Patrolman Davis Guyer said in an affidavit that he and Patrolman Jonathan Morin were sent on October 9 to look into a 911 call saying a kid was being harassed at a fishing hole on the Clyde River.  The call came in around 5:15 p.m. the affidavit says.

When he got to the river, Patrolman Guyer said, he met a man wearing fishing waders that were unzipped and folded down to his waist.  He said the man was drenched and holding a paper towel to the right side of his forehead.

According to the affidavit the man told police he had been hit in the head with a rock and had his head held under water after getting into an argument at the fishing hole…..
