Lois Mary Camley
Lois Mary Camley, 83, of Newport, formerly of East Hardwick, died Tuesday, December 1, 2009, at the Copley Hospital in Morrisville.
Mrs. Camley was born April 6, 1926, in Calais, a daughter of Melburn and Cecilia (Shatney) Lowell. She attended Wolcott public schools.
On June 24, 1957, she married Kenneth W. Camley in Craftsbury.
She stayed at home to care for her family. She enjoyed taking long walks, visiting with family and friends, and playing cards.
Survivors include three sons: Neil Lowell of Lyndonville, Kenneth Camley of East Hardwick, and Robert Camley of Newport; daughter Mary Camley of Eden; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two brothers, Harry Lowell of Danville and Philip Lowell of Lyndonville; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents; by her husband, Kenneth, on August 2, 1994; by her grandson David Camley; and by five siblings: Edwin, Bernard, Franklin, and Neil Lowell and Cedilia Fairbanks.
A memorial service was held December 8 at the Northern Vermont Funeral Home. Inurnment followed in the family lot in the Main Street Cemetery in Hardwick.

Robert Edward Foss
Robert Edward Foss, 80, of Tampa, Florida, died peacefully on November 24, 2009, in Tampa.
Mr. Foss was born in Sherbrooke, Quebec, on November 16, 1929, and raised in Island Pond.
He was valedictorian of the class of 1947 at Brighton High School and graduated cum laude from the University of Vermont. He received his master’s degree in French from Middlebury College and furthered his studies at the Sorbonne in Paris, France, for two years on a Fulbright Scholarship. He later attended the Army Language School at the Presidio to learn Mandarin Chinese.
He served his country during the Korean War. After his discharge, he taught in several U.S. schools, in Cambodia, and for more than 20 years in Beirut, Lebanon.
Since his retirement, he had lived in Tampa. He was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and the Island Pond Historical Society.
He was predeceased by his parents, Edmund and Marion Maroney Foss; and by his brother Raymond Foss.
He was of the Catholic faith, and religious services will be held at a later date. Burial will take place in the family plot at Lakeside Cemetery is Island Pond.
Mavis E. Nunn
Mavis E. Nunn, 80, of Stannard died peacefully on Thursday, December 3, 2009, at her residence.
Mrs. Nunn was born July 11, 1929, in Stannard, a daughter of Clifford and Bernice (Day) Winchester. She attended Stannard public schools and graduated from Greensboro High School in 1947.
In July 1967 she married Harold Byron Nunn at the church in Stannard.
In her earlier years she cared for young children in New York State. She worked for the telephone company in Greensboro and was a cook at the Greensboro Nursing Home. For 25 years she was a cook at Sterling College on Craftsbury Common. She retired in the early 1990s.
She was a member of the Greensboro Bend United Methodist Church. As a young woman she was a member of the Young Republican Club in St. Johnsbury. She was one of several to earn a trip to Washington, D.C., which was a highlight in her younger years.
Survivors include her husband, Harold, of Stannard; stepbrother Stewart Daige of Eden; stepsister Sylvia Dopp of Springfield; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents.
Funeral services were held December 6 at the Greensboro Bend United Methodist Church. Burial was held in the family lot in the Stannard Cemetery on December 6.

Bernard R. Wilson
Bernard R. Wilson, 82, of Island Pond died December 2, 2009, at his home in Island Pond.
Mr. Wilson was born July 30, 1927, in Island Pond, a son of Alvin and Elsie (Crowe) Wilson.
He married Sylvia (Woodard) Blake in 1954. She predeceased him in 1986.
He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Marine Corps.
He worked on the railroad for 20 years, reopened the Clyde River Hotel, and ran it until he sold it in 2002. He was cemetery sexton for 25 years. He painted houses and bought and sold land. He logged most of his life until two years ago.
He was very well known throughout the area and had many good friends. He was always very friendly and was a generous man. He always had to be busy doing something. His greatest pleasures were his family and working in the woods.
He and his late wife always tended to their garden.
He was a life member of American Legion Post 80 of Island Pond.
He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.
He is survived by his children and their spouses: Jerry and Kathy Blake and Marcia and Walter Driscoll; by his grandchildren: Lisa Trombly and her husband, Bruce, of Milton, Kelly Senesac and her husband, Dale, of Fairfax, Heidi Blake of Sarasota, Florida, Terry Blake and his companion, Emily Hilliker, of Island Pond, Heather Marcoux and her husband, Eric, of Island Pond, Ryan Driscoll and his companion, Jennifer Barnes, of Island Pond, and Erik Driscoll and his companion, Morgan Manzi, of Island Pond; by his stepgrandchildren Danielle and Derrick Dupuis; by his great-grandchildren: Bradley and Danielle Trombly, Cameron, Corey, Faith, and Colby Marcoux, Grant and Gabe Blake, and Jaime, Dakotah and Owen Senesac; by his brothers Rodney Wilson of Bangor, Maine, and Lanny Wilson of Connecticut; by his sisters Gay Wilson Labell and Beverly Wilson, both of Connecticut; and by cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter Carol Blake in 1999; by three brothers: Kenneth, John and Terry; by his sister Geraldine Wilson Keen; and by a special uncle, Irving Wilson.
Services will be held at the convenience of the family.
