Thelma M. Bly
Thelma M. Bly, 85, of Newport died on October 19, 2011, in Newport.
She was born September 23, 1926, in Derby, a daughter of Carlton and Alice (Wood) Brainard. In 1947, she married Edward F. Bly who predeceased her on March 15, 2008. Mrs. Bly was a bookkeeper for Community National Bank where she retired after 12 years of service. She and her late husband ran the family farm in East Charleston. Thelma enjoyed knitting and crocheting. She made many pairs of mittens for the schoolchildren as well as homemade applesauce for the school. Mr. and Mrs. Bly always had a big garden much to the delight of their family and friends.
She is survived by her children: Bill Bly and his wife, Myra, of South Hero, Valerie Spring and her husband, Ernie, of Hanover, New Hampshire, Beverly Devereaux and her husband, Vern, of Barton, and Sherry Clark and her husband, John, of Hartland; nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; two brothers: Myron (Toby) Brainard and his wife, Dorothy, and Curtis Brainard and his wife, Betty, all of Derby; and by several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Carlton Brainard Jr., and by two sisters: Phyllis Buchanan and Jeannette Goss.

Alma Elena Burlton
Alma Elena Burlton, 73, of Newport died on Saturday, October 22, 2011, at the Bel-Aire Nursing Home in Newport.
She was born on July 24, 1938, in St. Johnsbury, the daughter of Allen and Lila (Davis) Polaski. She was brought up by her stepfather, Charles Wood.
On August 16, 1991, she married Arthur Burlton who predeceased her on February 2, 1995.
She was a housekeeper in the Lyndonville area for over 30 years.
She enjoyed collecting stuffed and ceramic cats, crocheting, going on sightseeing rides in the country, and stopping by old country general stores.
She is survived by a cousin, Elizabeth Littlefield, of Lyndonville, and by her long-time companion, Bill Hall, of Newport.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, October 26, at the Pine Grove Cemetery in Newport.

Charles B. Soucy
Charles B. Soucy, 81, of Newport, died on Sunday, October 9, 2011, following a lengthy illness.
He was the beloved husband of Virginia D. (Poor) Soucy, with whom he shared 60 years of marriage.
Born on February 8, 1930, in Salem, Massachusetts, he was the son of the late Joseph O. and Alberta (Voyer) Soucy. He was a 1947 graduate of Salem High School, a 1952 graduate of Babson College, and served in the U.S. Navy.
A well-known Salem businessman, Mr. Soucy was former president of C.B. Soucy Insurance Agency. Active in community affairs, he was former president of Salem Kiwanis Club and later served as district governor of Kiwanis, International. He also served as treasurer of North Bay Council, Boy Scouts of America, and was instrumental in the formation of Salem Troop #72. He also served on the boards of various other civic organizations.
Up until the time of his illness, he was an avid skier and skied at many resorts around the world. He and his wife also enjoyed traveling and golf. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his five beloved children and their spouses: Deborah and Kevin Lawton of Swansea, Massachusetts, Charles and Susan Soucy of Boxford, Massachusetts, Paul and Cynthia Soucy of Boxford, Joan and Kevin Street of Essex, Massachusetts, and Janet and Lee Merrill of Wenham, Massachusetts; by his nine cherished grandchildren: Amy Lawton of Swansea, Michael Soucy of Boulder, Colorado, Ellen Reece and her husband, Cameron, of Cambridge, Massachusetts, Laura Soucy of Swampscott, Massachusetts, Catherine and Andrew Soucy of Boxford, Massachusetts, and Melissa, Joseph, and Jacob Merrill of Wenham; and by his loving sister, Joan Garfield, of Lynn, Massachusetts. He was predeceased by his beloved grandson, Matthew Lawton.
