BURLINGTON — A woman federal authorities say started the shooting that resulted in the death of Border Patrol Agent David Maland on Interstate 91 on January 20, is facing charges of using a deadly weapon to assault a federal law enforcement officer and using and firing a weapon in connection with such an assault.
According to FBI Special Agent Leah Bogdanowicz, who filed an affidavit in support of the charges, the car which Teresa Youngblut was driving was pulled over around 3 p.m. for an immigration inspection. In addition to the Border Patrol Agent who pulled Ms. Youngblut over, there were other agents in three cruisers, the affidavit says. The two were already on the radar of federal law enforcement after people in Lyndonville and Newport noticed them walking about dressed in tactical gear wearing sidearms, the affidavit says. …
(NOTE: This post was corrected to remove the suggestion that federal officials say Teresa Youngblut fired the shot that killed Border Patrol Agent David Maland. To date they have only said Ms. Youngblut fired at him.)
