Effie M. (Hall) Brown
Effie Mae (Hall) Brown, 82, formerly of Barton, died peacefully after a period of failing health on October 12, 2017, in Loudon, New Hampshire.
One of 14 children, she was the daughter of William V. and Shirley E. (Hunt) Hall. She was born on February 2, 1935, in Barton. She attended school in Westmore and Barton.
After moving to Boscawen, New Hampshire, she married and raised six children. She worked for 28 and one-half years at Beede’s Electric in Penacook, New Hampshire, where she retired in 2000.
Mrs. Brown enjoyed reading, playing bingo, and attending country music concerts, but most of all her passion was racing. In the late ’50s and early ’60s she raced six-cylinder cars at Bryar Motorsport Park, now New Hampshire Motor Speedway, in Loudon and Pine Speedway in Rumney, New Hampshire, with her family. Her favorite NASCAR drivers were Dale Earnhardt Sr. and Jr. She collected their racing memorabilia as well as owls and cardinals. She also enjoyed spending time on Crystal Lake in Barton with her family. But most of all she loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her parents; her daughter, Shirley Helmholtz; her granddaughter, Christine Brown; and five brothers: Clarence, Edwin, Raymond, and William Hall, and John Baird.
She is survived by her children: Linda Trefethen and her husband, Paul, of Loudon, Wayne Brown of Berlin, New Hampshire, Barbara Murphy of Boscawen, Cathy Currier and her husband, Robert, of Franklin, New Hampshire, and Dale Brown and his wife, Deborah, of Franklin. She also leaves 15 grandchildren: Michael Trefethen, Michelle Bedard, Shannon, Richard, Karen Corbiel, Kandy Shattuck, Alyssa Hamilton, Shane Legere, Steven Brown, Destiny Gauthier, Melissa Menkin, Jason Currier; her step-grandchildren: Amy Lariviere, and Craig and Cory Burton; and 32 great-grandchildren. Her siblings include: Dorcas Wood of Franklin, Sandra Elliott of Pembroke, New Hampshire, Robert Hall of Concord, New Hampshire, Marilyn Collins of Coos Bay, Oregon, Susan Audet and Bruce Hall, both of Concord, Donna Richardson of Spring Hill, Florida, and James Baird of Concord.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice Program, Concord Regional Visiting Nurse Association, The Slusser Center, 30 Pillsbury Street, Concord, New Hampshire 03301.
There will be no calling hours or services as per Mrs. Brown’s wishes. The Phaneuf Funeral Home and Crematorium in Boscawen is assisting the family with arrangements.
Madeleine Daignault
Madeleine Daignault, 90, of Derby Line, formerly of Orleans, died on October 11, 2017, in Derby Line.
She was born on September 10, 1927, in Montreal, Quebec. On November 3, 1951, she married Claude Daignault, who predeceased her in 1975.
She had been an inspector for the former Slalom Ski Wear company. She was a faithful member of St. Theresa’s Catholic Church in Orleans for many years. Mrs. Daignault loved to go for rides in the country looking for wildlife. She enjoyed doing puzzles and loved the company of her family.
She is survived by her children: Francis Daignault and his wife, Deborah, of West Glover, Mark Daignault of Orleans, John Daignault and his wife, Judy, of Livermore Falls, Maine, Marjolaine Grant of Jay, Maine, Maryse Hodgkins of Barton, Susan Weed and her husband, Preston, of Wray, Colorado, and Lynn Daignault and her husband, Gerry, of Barton; 13 grandchildren: Christopher and Penny, Stephanie and Melinda, Robert and Jennifer, Jessica, Teresa, James, Rhonda, Joshua, Hillary and Hanna; and numerous great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Pierre Gingras of Montreal; and by several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her sister MaryPaul Roy, and by three brothers: Jacques, Bernard, and Phillip Gingras.
A Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 28, at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church in Orleans, officiated by the Reverend Timothy Naples. Interment will follow in St Theresa’s Cemetery in Orleans.

William George Strouse
William George Strouse, 35, of St. Johnsbury, died on October 7, 2017, in St. Johnsbury, after a gracious and faith-filled journey with colon cancer.
He was born on December 24, 1981, in Burlington, to James T. and Margaret Mary Strouse. He was the youngest of six children, all of whom doted on him from the very beginning. He graduated from Burlington High School in 2000 and the Catholic University of America, in Washington D.C., in 2005, with a degree in civil engineering.
While in D.C., he met the love of his life, Brittany Marie Isabelle. They were married on August 6, 2016, in Newport.
Mr. Strouse loved life and among the biggest joys were the gatherings he and Mrs. Strouse would have for family and friends. One of his most recent joys was the restoration of their home, a 200-year-old Vermont farmhouse.
Mr. Strouse continually served to remind those who knew him of their blessings in life, particularly one of life’s greatest gifts — friendship. He enriched many lives through his contagious energy, humor, generosity, faith, and sportsmanship (he was an avid hockey player).
Mr. Strouse is survived by his loving wife, Brittany Marie Isabelle Strouse; his parents, James T. and Margaret Mary Strouse; his brothers and sisters and their families: James and Gabriella Strouse and their children Theresa and James, Margaret Strouse and her children Madeline, Sophia, and Mariela, Sarah and Daniel Curry and their children Amelia and Elizabeth, Joseph and Stacy Strouse and their children Mary and Irene, and Elizabeth and Bryan Connolly and their children Lillian, William, Jack, and Caroline. He is also survived by his parents-in-law, Constance and Richard Isabelle; his sisters-in-law Kristin Isabelle Messina, and her husband, Nicholas, and Lauren Isabelle; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
He was predeceased by his grandparents as well as his infant brother, John Robert Strouse.
The Strouse and Isabelle families have enormous gratitude for the love and kindness of family, friends, and community members who came together to support them throughout Mr. Strouse’s treatment.
A Mass was celebrated at St. Mark’s Church in Burlington, on October 12.

Thelma L. Willis
Thelma L. Willis, 94, of Newport, died on October 5, 2017, in Newport, surrounded by her family.
She was born in Beebe Plain on March 29, 1923, the daughter of Clinton and Leda Willey. In 1941 she married Melvin Willis, who predeceased her in May of 1972.
She is also predeceased by her son John Willis; her brothers: Clesson Willey, Roland Willey, Basil Willey, and Lyle Willey; her sister Betty (Willey) Laraway; her granddaughters: Wendy (Willis) Judd, who was the daughter of Duane and Bev Willis, Lindsey Couture, who was the daughter of Chris and Roxanne Couture; and her grandson Justin Forcier, who was the son of Karen Bullis. She was also predeceased by her sons-in-law: Claude Roberge and Joseph Bullis.
She is survived by her children: Duane Willis and his wife, Beverly, of Inverness, Florida, Donna Willis, wife of John Willis, of Inverness, Marlene Bullis of Newport Center, Trudy Roberge of Newport Center, Jody Cleveland and her husband, Mark, of Barton; and many grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters Connie (Willey) Knowles and her husband, Dale, of Newport, and Iva (Willey) Shannon of Clearwater, Florida; and her brother Ernold Willey of Shreveport, Louisiana.
She asked that the family give a special thank-you to her granddaughter Lisa Spooner, who was always bringing her special treats and visiting often.
Mrs. Willis loved putting puzzles together, playing cards, playing Yahtzee, and she loved to travel with friends. She was always helping friends and family and was a very caring person and an awesome mother.
