Harry Saunders Blanchard
Harry “Jack” Saunders Blanchard, 91, of Danville, died on March 27, 2017, at The Pines in Lyndonville, where he had resided since 2009.
Mr. Blanchard was born on October 16, 1925, in Orleans, a son to the late Harrison and Grace (Milne) Blanchard. A graduate of Orleans High School, he served in the U.S. Navy during World War II aboard the destroyer, the USS McGowan. He and his wife, Phyllis, met in first grade, married in 1948, and enjoyed a lifetime of love until her death just four months ago.
Mr. Blanchard attended the University of Vermont, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in chemistry in 1950, and then the University of Michigan where he received a doctorate in chemistry in 1955. He worked as a research scientist for General Electric, then as a teacher, and later headmaster, at Kimberton Farms School and as vice-president of operations for General Building Services in Pennsylvania. In 1985, the Blanchards returned to Vermont, residing in Middlebury where Mr. Blanchard worked in real estate, until retiring to Danville in 1998.
He was a master gardener, enjoyed walking, poetry, and sailing in his earlier years. He was a member of the Danville United Methodist Church and the Vermont 251 Club; he held a special affinity for the town of Plymouth. Mr. Blanchard had a love for books and enjoyed spending time at the Pope library. He will be remembered by many for his brilliant sense of humor.
He is survived by his children: Mark, David, and Jamie; his grandchildren: Stacey, Ashley, Javin, Miranda, Hannah, Sheldon, and Nigel; and by his great-grandchildren: Skyler, Arielle, and Lachlan.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., on Saturday, May 20, at the Danville United Methodist Church on the town green with a luncheon to follow. Burial will take place later that day at the Pleasant View Cemetery in Orleans.

John Doyon
John Doyon, 60, of Island Pond, died on May 4, 2017, at the North Country Hospital in Newport, after a brief illness.
He was born on June 12, 1956, in Lancaster, New Hampshire, the son of Roland and Bethany (Sawyer) Doyon.
He proudly served in the United States Navy on a submarine during the Vietnam War, and was a member of the American Legion Post #80 in Island Pond.
Mr. Doyon enjoyed cooking, fishing, and joking around with people in town. His motto and favorite saying was, “Don’t sweat the small stuff, it’s all small stuff.”
He is survived by his daughter Cassidy Doyon; the mother of his daughter, Nancy Doyon; his father, Roland “Middy” Doyon; three stepchildren: Ashley, Kylie, and Chris Bowman; his brother Tom Doyon and his wife, Peggy; and by his nieces and nephews: Tracie, Jackie, Jill, Breanna, Dominique, and Nick.
He was predeceased by his mother, Bethany Doyon; and his brother Pete Doyon.
A gathering of remembrance will be held at the American Legion Post #80 in Island Pond on Friday, May 19, at 5 p.m.

Lucien LeBel
Lucien LeBel of Derby died on May 12, 2017, at Derby Green in Derby.
He was born on June 8, 1930, in Montreal, to Auguste and Christine (Crepelle) LeBel. On October 19, 1968, he married Alice Raymo, who survives him. He moved to Coventry when he was 15 and worked on the family farm. He graduated from Newport High School. He worked as a parts man at W.S. Mitchell’s for about 30 years and then at the East Side Restaurant.
Mr. LeBel loved working in his vegetable garden and yard, walking most every day, all sports, especially hockey, and watching game shows on TV. He was a member of Newport Baptist Church and also attended Cornerstone Evangelical Free Church.
He is survived by his wife, Alice LeBel, of Derby; by his children: Bruce LeBel of Derby, David LeBel and his wife, Melissa, of Fall River, Massachusetts, and Christine Provoncha and her husband, Randy, of Derby Line; and by his grandchildren: Bethany and Mitchell Provoncha of Derby Line. He is also survived by his brother-in-law Tom Beardsley; his sister-in-law Ellie Tyler; and by nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his sister Florence Racine.
There will be a private family service at the Derby Cemetery at a later date.

Patricia Ann Loveland Marsh
Patricia Ann Loveland Marsh, 86, of Orleans, died on May 11, 2017, in Newport.
She was born in Orleans on January 10, 1931, the only child of Esther Loveland.
She lived with her mother and grandfather Victor Loveland until the age of 16 when her mother died and she married her sweetheart, Slayton Marsh, of Brownington Village. Together they raised three daughters: Vicki, who died at age 20 in 1968, Nancy Morley Reynolds of Derby, and Holly Martel of Coventry.
She graduated from Orleans High School, and very soon after became secretary to the principal. She spent years in the central office of Ethan Allen Manufacturing, and later as a guidance secretary at Lake Region Union High School. As a more “mature student,” Mrs. Marsh graduated from Lyndon State College having always made the president’s list. From here she moved into the classrooms at Lake Region and then to the Center for Adult Basic Education. She especially loved this challenge saying each person who attended class there wanted to learn and it was fun working with them. She had always enjoyed school and excelled in all things academic.
Mr. and Mrs. Marsh, along with their daughters and later their four grandsons, found their Brownington home to be a place of family gatherings, celebrations, holidays, and Sunday dinners. She especially loved cats, flowers from her gardens, Mr. Marsh’s home cooking, and taking long rides in the car.
Over the years she joined tour groups visiting England, Turkey, and Israel several times. She was a 700 page per day reader of novels, poetry, and nonfiction. Her library was extensive and learning and traveling through reading were her passion.
Mrs. Marsh loved her church and served in many capacities at the Brownington UCC until blindness over took her. Over the years she taught summer Bible school, Sunday school, attended Bible studies, and directed the youth choir. She appreciated the beauty of nature, exploring museums and galleries, and listening to classical music.
She battled and survived five cancers always conquering them and moving on. For the past three years she resided at the Michaud Memorial Manor in Derby Line forming meaningful and trusting relationships with the loving staff and faithful visitors.
Mrs. Marsh was predeceased by her husband, Slayton, in 2013; and by her daughter Vicki in 1968.
She is survived by her daughters Nancy Reynolds and her husband, “Red,” and Holly Martel and her husband, Tom; by her grandsons: John Morley III and his wife, Jodi, of Orleans, Scott Morley and his wife, Sheila, of Coventry, Randy Morley and his partner, Kim Boettcher, of Orleans, E.J. Rowell and his wife, Barbara, of Orleans, Seth Rowell of Orleans, and Mercy Cianciolo and her husband, David, of Coventry. She also leaves her great-grandchildren: Taylor and Brooke Morley, Trisha and Mariah Morley, Chelsea, Cara, Kristen, and Enoch John Rowell, and Trevor and Avery Rowell; step great-grandchild: Meg Prue and her daughters, Madisun and Emmalin Daignault; and great-great-granddaughter Aleeah Pothier.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m., on Wednesday, May 17, at the Brownington Village Church. Friends may call at the church from 2 p.m. until the hour of the funeral. Gary W. Powers
Gary W. Powers, 59, of Derby, died on May 6, 2017, in Lebanon, New Hampshire.
He was born on March 28, 1958, in Newport to Ray and Vida (Doncaster) Powers. On August 10, 1989, he married the former Jennifer Troupe, who survives him.
He was an engineer and worked for Caterpillar manufacturing in Indiana where he retired in October 2015. Mr. Powers was a gentleman farmer, loved the outdoors, fishing, hiking, and loved to listen to live music.
He is survived by his wife, Jennifer Powers, of Derby; by his children: Megan Timmons and her husband, Brian, of Lafayette, Indiana, Casey Powers of Pasadena, California, Marshall Powers of West Lafayette, Indiana, and Annie Powers of Bloomington, Indiana. He is also survived by two sisters: Beth Crowe and her husband, Clifford, of West Charleston, and Marsha Brunelle and her husband, Victor, of West Charleston; his nephews: Jeff and Gabe; his niece Summer; and his great-niece Kylie.
Funeral services were held on May 13 at the Curtis-Britch-Converse-Rushford Funeral Home in Newport, followed by interment in West Charleston Cemetery.

Charles (Butch) Rash
Charles “Butch” Rash Jr., 62, of Barton, died May 5, 2017, at North Country Hospital in Newport.
He was born December 28, 1954, to Charles Sr. and Ruth Davis Rash.
He is survived by his sisters: Rachel Rash Pelletier and her children: Kathlene and David, and Nan Rash Pariseau and her daughter Julie Pariseau. He is also survived by Amy Elliott, and her son, Daemyn; by his roommate and caregiver, Ted Zayne; and by numerous cousins.
Mr. Rash’s second family were his friends and cohorts at the Lake House Saloon in Barton, and the Gap Pub and Grill in Westmore. He could lift a glass, and did, with all of them.
He loved life and lived it to the max. He farmed for many years and then went to work on construction projects, first for Dan Scott, and then with J.P. Sicard. He worked for Mr. Sicard until his lung condition forced him into retirement.
Mr. Rash never married, but liked to say he loved women, and enjoyed each and every relationship.
At his request, there will be no formal service. Friends and family met at the Lake House Saloon on May 12, to reminisce and remember.
Laurie Ann (Keement) Sidney
Laurie Ann (Keement) Sidney, 56, of Newport, beloved wife of Elwin (Bub) Sidney III, died peacefully on May 13, 2017, with her family by her side after her long battle with cancer.
She was born on May 2, 1961, in Newport. On May 1, 2011, she married Elwin (Bub) Sidney III. She is survived by her mother Sadie Watters of Morgan; her children: Jennifer McAllister and her husband, Shaun, Kevin Pion and his partner, Monica Carpenter, Jeremy Pion and his partner, Nicole Jaycox; by her stepchildren Elwin Sidney IV, and Amanda Meunier and her husband, Jonathan; her grandchildren: Meadow, Hunter, Austen, Hannah, Kyle, McKayla, Taylor, Arianna, Alexis, Abby, and Julia; her siblings: Ila and Starlyn Chilafoux, Linda and John Kudla, Debbie and Francis Chaput, Mary and Bernie Lantagne, and John and Kerry Keement; and by several special nieces, nephews, and friends.
She was predeceased by her father John Lawrence Keement Sr.; and her grandson Casey Jeremy Rodriguez-Camp.
Ms. Sidney enjoyed working in the public with people such as at The Brown Cow, Peebles, and Maurices. She enjoyed selling 50/50 tickets at White Mountain Motorsports Park.
She loved spending time with her husband, children, grandchildren, family, and friends, camping, and riding motorcycles.
A celebration of life will take place on Saturday, May 20, at 10 a.m., at the American Legion in Newport. Pastor Laurence Wall will officiate the service. A gathering will follow the service.
