DERBY—The design review board (DRB) here gave its okay last week to a plan to convert the Derby Green Nursing Home to a sober living residence. The nursing home, which is off Route 5, has been closed since 2020.
On Friday Lila Bennett, who directs Journey to Recovery, explained how her organization was able to buy the facility and laid out plans for its operation.
Ms. Bennett noted that only two Derby residents showed up at the DRB hearing, one who was totally in favor of the idea, another who had questions about the plan. She said Journey to Recovery intends to have public meetings to explain how the safe house will operate and hear neighbors’ concerns.
Money for the project comes from Dawn and Greg Tatro, the couple who founded Jenna’s Promise in Johnson after their daughter died of an overdose….
