IRASBURG — This Sunday in Irasburg, the Kingdom Messengers Pathfinders club will host a fall market to raise money for its first mission trip to an orphanage in Cambodia. The organization plans for its youth to expand their worldview and share skills they’ve learned with kids in need. Pathfinders hopes to offset travel costs by baked goods, crafts, festive drinks, face painting, and more.
Cambodian hosts will put up local Pathfinders and their families on the site of a beautiful botanical garden, the Butterfly Orphanage, in Siem Reap. There, visitors and tourists who stop by the garden help raise money for the orphanage and school through ticket sales. Pathfinders will attend to teach youth in the school, share hands-on outdoor skills, and build community. They volunteer their time and efforts in exchange for room and board at the orphanage. This is the first time the local Pathfinders chapter will embark on overseas missionary work.
While Pathfinders is a global organization associated with the Seventh-day Adventist Church, youth of any religion, or none at all, are welcome to join. Glover-based Pathfinder Maryann Johnson, 17, and her brother Herluf Johnson, 15, look forward to this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity after three years growing with the organization.
