Lake Region actors go down the rabbit hole

BARTON — Don’t be late for a very important date — Lake Region Union High School theater department’s production of Alice by Heart.  With a psychedelic set design, strong vocal performances, eccentric acting, and a spin on a familiar children’s tale, this musical set in 1940s England gets curiouser and curiouser.  There was an almost full house at the Barton Memorial Building when students took the stage for Friday’s opening night.  Directed by Lake Region faculty member Johanna Pastel and accompanied by a band led by Mark Violette, the show took the audience on a kaleidoscopic journey down the rabbit hole.

In her director’s note, Ms. Pastel says Alice is a strange play.  “Perhaps you will find yourself wondering at points, ‘What is even going on?’ or perhaps you have spent years rereading Alice in Wonderland and you will catch every nuance and reference.  Either way, this story is for you.”
