Florence Butler Tillinghast

 

Florence Butler Tillinghast, 92, of York, Pennsylvania, died peacefully at home on August 3, 2026.  She was born August 6, 1933 in Irasburg to the late Arthur W. and Glenna (Huntington) Butler.

Florence is survived by her children: Mark Alan Tillinghast and his wife, Phyllis, Margo Amy Singer and her husband, Paul; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.  She was predeceased by her husband, George S. Tillinghast.  A memorial service will be held at Christ Lutheran Church, 80 South Main Street, Loganville, Pennsylvania 17342 on Saturday, August 22  at 11 a.m.  Interment private.  In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Central Pennsylvania Food Bank at centralpafoodbank.org. Reginald Leroy Rhodes

Reginald Leroy Rhodes, 81, of Newport, died on August 8, 2026 in Glover. He was born on June 8, 1945 in Newport to the late Cyrus and Dorothy (Peabody) Rhodes.  On December 30, 1967 he married the love of his life Martha (Marte) Robinson who survives him.

Reginald was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, where he served in the Vietnam War.  He was vice president at Bogner for many years.  In his spare time he loved playing golf, traveling and spending time with his grandchildren.  He was also a lifelong member of the Newport Country Club.

He is also survived by his daughter Jennifer Ann Rhodes, son David William Rhodes and his life partner, Cynthia Jordan; granddaughter Lauren Rich; brother Edwin Rhodes; brothers-in-law Stanley Robinson and his wife, Beth, Howard Robinson and his wife, Lauren, Thomas Robinson and his wife, Elaine; sister-in-law Pat Rhodes; several nieces and nephews and Cynthia’s daughter Lily Markwell.

He was predeceased by his granddaughter Michelle Jacqueline Fenimore; sister Betty Doncaster and her husband, Wayne; brother Cecil Rhodes; sister-in-law Sue Rhodes; brother-in-law William Robinson, and his wife, Elaine.

Gerard R. Martel

Gerard R. Martel died on August 5, 2026 at the age of 87. Jerry was born in Lewiston, Maine, and grew up in New Britain, Connecticut, graduating from New Britain High School in 1957.  He continued his education and graduated from Saint Michael’s College in 1961 and was a career educator of social studies for 34 years at Canaan High School, Lake Region Union High School and North Country Union High School, retiring in 1997.  Jerry loved teaching and his students.  Outside the classroom, he found joy in coaching basketball, serving as an Orleans Village Trustee, playing a round of golf, and simply being with people.

Jerry is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years, Judy, and his five children: Robert Martel, Tracie Yindra and her husband, Chris, Cindy Steel and her husband, Kyle Isreal, Lee-Anne Martin and her husband, Tom, and Ed Tinker and his partner, Justin Tan.  He is also survived by his grandchildren, of whom he was immensely proud:  Erica and Arie Labodi, Hannah and Georgia Yindra, Meridith and Lily Martin, and Christian and Mason Martel, and great-grandson Jaxson Clad.  Jerry was predeceased by his first wife, Pauline, and sons Paul and Michael.

The family extends their thanks to Jerry’s caregivers, Shelly Maxwell and Tonya Monfette, as well as the staff at Bel-Aire Center and Maple Lane Nursing Home.

Samuel A. Davis

Samuel A. Davis, 50, of Newport died on August 8, 2026 in Lebanon, New Hampshire.  He was born on April 17, 1976 in San Joaquin, California to Shannon Rene Lyne Updyke.

Samuel was a self-employed contractor for many years, as well as being an active member of the West Charleston Volunteer Fire Department.  In his spare time he loved fishing, four wheeling, RC cars, sitting around a bonfire, camping, snowmobiling, was a survivalist and loved all kinds of animals.

He is survived by his partner, Kandee Shatney; his children:  Meadow Von Atzingen, Braxton Judkins, Logan Judkins, Luca Shatney and Willough Judkins; grandchild, Rainbow Bright Von Atzingen; hald sister, Shannon Webb; longtime best fisherman friend Ron Chamberlin; all his brothers and sisters on the West Charleston Fire Department, and his loving pets Aries and Wickett.

He was predeceased by his sister, Sheri Poulin, and his father, Joseph Casto.

Sandra H. Butler

Sandra H. Butler died of a heart attack on August 11, 2026.  She was born January 1, 1941, in Hanover, New Hampshire.  Her parents were James L. Hayes and Grace Bullard Hayes. The family resided in Stratford until 1958.

The family then moved to Barton and she attended the eighth grade and freshman year at Barton Graded School and Academy.  Her parents moved again and she wished to finish her education at Barton Academy.  She stayed in Barton and became part of the Potter-Hobbs family.  She worked while in high school at the Blue Grill Restaurant.

She graduated from Barton Academy in the class of 1963.

On September 29, 1963 she married Willis (Bill) Butler.  Sandy became a homemaker, raised two children and volunteered for many community and church events.   After her children were raised, she held several part-time jobs, including at the Franklyn Store, as a Home Health aide and with the C & C Market.

She is survived by her husband, Bill, her daughter Sarah Butler Collins, son Bernie Butler, three grandchildren, members of the Hobbs family, her childhood and beyond friend Marjorie Perkins Lowery of Barre and her beloved dog Remi

She was predeceased by her parents, a brother, a sister, her beloved mother-in-law Shirley Butler, her father-in-law Bernard Butler, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
