David Albert Hockensmith
The Reverend David Albert Hockensmith died Sunday, July 19, 2026, after a brief illness. Born April 14, 1941, in Indianapolis, Indiana, he was the son of Harold George and Louise Lane Hockensmith. Reared there, he attended Pike High School, graduating as salutatorian. He graduated cum laude from Wabash College where he was president of Lambda Chi Alpha social fraternity and Eta Sigma Phi classics honorary. He then received a bachelor of divinity degree cum laude from Episcopal Theological School in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Later, he received a master of arts degree in English literature from Butler University.
On July 9, 1966, Mr. Hockensmith married Stephanie Claire Duke in Rock Springs Congregational Church, Arlington, Virginia. The Right Reverend John P. Craine, Episcopal Bishop of Indianapolis officiated. Mr. and Mrs. Hockensmith had recently celebrated their sixtieth wedding anniversary.
Also in 1966, the Reverend Mr. Hockensmith was ordained to the ministry of the Protestant Episcopal Church and accepted a call as a curate of St. Paul’s Church, Indianapolis. Subsequently, he served as assistant minister at St. Luke’s Church in Scranton, Pennsylvania; as rector of St. Peter’s Church in Smyrna, Delaware; St. Peter’s Church in Hazleton Pennsylvania, and St. Mark’s Church in Frankford, Philadelphia. While in the Diocese of Pennsylvania, Mr. Hockensmith chaired the planning commission, served as dean of Pennypack Deanery and was on the commission on ministry. He served as chairman of the board of the Philadelphia Protestant Home, a large continuing care retirement community. Upon retirement, he was designated Rector Emeritus of St. Mark’s Church. In 1999, his wife and he retired to Morgan.
Mr. Hockensmith was active in a number of civic and genealogical groups during his lifetime including, in various communities, Lions, Kiwanis, Rotary and Optimist clubs. While in Philadelphia, he was president of the Philadelphia Continental Chapter, Sons of the American Revolution, then the largest chapter in the nation with over five hundred members. He subsequently served as president of the Vermont Society, vice president general of the New England District, and chaplain general and inspector general of the National Society. He was presented the Minuteman award, the highest recognition of the society. Mr. Hockensmith served as prior of the New England Priory of the Sovereign Military Order of the Temple of Jerusalem (Templars). He received two of the order’s highest honors, the Order of Merit and Grand Croix. Central to the order’s mission is support of Christians in the Holy Land. He served as chaplain to a number of organizations: the Society of Colonial Wars in Vermont, the Massachusetts Commandery of the Military Order of the Loyal Legion of the United States (descendants of Union officers), the Sons of the Revolution in Massachusetts; the New Hampshire Society of the National Huguenot Society; and the Vermont Society SAR. He was also a member of the Sons of American Colonists, the St. Andrew’s Society of Vermont, the Massachusetts Society of the War of 1812, Descendants of Indiana Pioneers and Clan MacLellan. Mr. Hockensmith was a member of the Union Club of Boston.
While in Morgan, he was founding president of the Morgan Historical Society and chair of the Morgan Republican Caucus. He often conducted services at Christ Church, Stanstead, Quebec. He supplied at St. Peter’s Church, Lyndonville, and was a friend of the Brownington Congregational Church UCC where his wife was a member. Since retiring, his wife and he have travelled extensively to all continents except Antarctica.
In 2023, Mr. and Mrs. Hockensmith moved to Covenant Living in Keene, New Hampshire, to be near their son’s family. They retain property on Lake Parker in West Glover, where they spent the summers.
The Reverend David A. Hockensmith was predeceased by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Stephanie Duke; his children: George Jeremy Hockensmith, esquire, and his wife, Genienne Mongno Hockensmith, his daughter Sylvia Louise and her husband, Christopher Thames, and by his grandchildren: Hunter Duke and Benjamin Finn Hockensmith, and Ethan David Thames.

Steven Scott Jenne
Steven Scott Jenne of Hardwick died on the morning of July 17 after a courageous, years-long battle with bladder cancer. His wife and partner, Barbara, was by his side.
Steve was fiercely proud to be a native Vermonter, having been born in Newport February 10, 1960. Although he lived for a brief time in Georgia, his heart remained in the hills of the Green Mountains. He was predeceased by his parents, Edward “Ted” Jenne and Mary Louise Jenne, as well as his uncle William Jenne, and his aunt Barbara Corrow.
Steve attended public schools in Derby and graduated from North Country Union High School in 1978. Upon graduation, Steve attended Hofstra University working on a degree in engineering. After a few years at Hofstra, Steve joined the United States Navy and was a master diesel mechanic and also a submarine nuclear propulsion plant operator. He worked primarily on nuclear submarines during his active duty. The last submarine being the U.S.S. Portsmouth. He received many medals and accommodations during his service. During his time in the Navy, Steve met his lifelong friend, Tom Brown, who stood as his best man at his wedding.
In 1993, Steve met the love of his life, Barbara Burgess. They built a life together for over 33 years, marrying in 2015. They stayed side by side through Steve’s triumphs and battles, Barbara being there when his final battle was over.
Steve will be remembered for his quiet wit, and love of music and books. Steve was a collector to say the least, This is evidenced by a book collection that rivals many public libraries, a CD and vinyl collection that might make professional music studios envious, and a stereo system that could be used to shake the whole of Caledonia County.
Steve is survived by his wife of 33 years, Barbara Jenne, her children: Charlie and his wife, Brandy Burgess, of Waterville; and Julia and her husband, Mike Burgess, of Barre. His sisters: Karen Jenne of Derby Line, Pam Bormann and her husband, Mark Bormann, of North Conway, New Hampshire, his brother Bradly Jenne and wife, Blanca, of Middlebury, and his aunt Berlly A. Jenne of Derby. He is also survived by his nephews: Drew and Eric Bormann, Marcus Jenne, and his niece Morgan Jenne. He is also survived by many cousins.
Steve’s family sends their deepest gratitude to Caledonia Home Health and Hospice and the entire treatment team at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, Norris Cotton Cancer Center in St. Johnsbury, who allowed his last days to be filled with dignity.
A celebration of life for Steve will take place on August 8 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Wolcott Town Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Steve’s name to Caledonia Home Health and Hospice or the Bladder Cancer Awareness Network.
Norman R. LeBlanc
March 9, 1951 — July 19, 2026
Norman R. LeBlanc, 75, of Orleans, died peacefully after his battle with cancer in the comfort of his home surrounded by family on July 19, 2026.
He was born on March 9, 1951, in Barton to Paul and Gerturde LeBlanc. After graduating from Lake Region Union High School in 1969, he went on to work at Orleans Country Club for 52 years as a greenskeeper. He was a prominent figure out on the golf course and was always up for a conversation, a joke, or a friendly wave while on one of his various mowers.
On July 18, 1981, he married Ronda Pierce of Albany, and they enjoyed 45 years together.
Norman will be fondly remembered for his sense of humor, quick wit and an endearing amount of stubbornness. He was happiest when spending time with family and he especially enjoyed sleepovers with his grandson Hudson. When not at home, Norman could be found hunting for a trophy buck or fishing on various lakes and rivers in Orleans County.
He is survived by his wife, Ronda; son Travis LeBlanc and partner, Michelle Robert; daughter Amber Rahelich and husband, Adam; grandson Hudson LeBlanc; father-in-law Maurice Pierce; brothers-in-law: Randy Pierce and wife, Robin, and family, and Raymond Pierce and wife, Linda; sisters: Carmen Lamarche and Paulette Riendeau; sisters-in-law: Roberta LeBlanc and Irene LeBlanc; and niece Renee Hamel and several nephews. He also leaves behind his cat Ozzie and three four-legged furry grandchildren: Nala, Luna, and Birdie.
He was predeceased by his parents, Paul and Gerturde LeBlanc; mother-in-law Carlene Pierce; brothers: Theodore and Allen LeBlanc; sister Joanne Hamel; brothers-in-law: Claude Lamarche and Bernard Riendeau Sr.; nephews: Bernard Riendeau Jr., and Doug LeBlanc.

Deborah (Mason) Meunier
In loving memory of Deborah (Mason) Meunier.
It is with heavy hearts that her family announces the peaceful death of Deborah (Mason) Meunier, who left on July 23, 2026. Born on February 5, 1952, in the charming town of Newport, Deborah spent her life surrounded by the beauty of her birthplace, where she nurtured deep roots and cherished connections.
Deborah was the beloved daughter of Terrill and Arlene Mason. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Phyllis, and her brothers Gilbert, Terrill Jr., and Charles. Despite these profound losses, Deborah remained a pillar of strength and love for her family.
In a testament to a life filled with commitment and affection, Deborah shared 55 wonderful years of marriage with her devoted husband, Roger J. Meunier. The couple married on May 29, 1971, and together, they built a loving home in Vermont, raising two sons: Scott, of Jay, and Marc, of Newport Center. Her family was the center of her world, and she took immense pride in her four grandchildren: Ross, Renee, Grant, and Emma, all of whom brought her endless joy and laughter.
A graduate of North Country Union High School in 1970, Deborah embarked on a career that showcased her dedication and skill. She worked as a sewing machine operator at Slalom and Bogner, before spending nearly two decades as a microscopic TIG welder at MetalFlex Manufacturing in Newport. Her colleagues respected her for her meticulous craftsmanship and unwavering work ethic.
Deborah’s talents extended far beyond her professional life. She was an artist at heart, spending countless hours knitting and crocheting exquisite, heartfelt gifts for her family and friends. Her creations were not just crafts; they were tangible expressions of her love and care, treasured by all who received them.
Deborah’s kindness, warmth, and generosity touched the lives of many. She is survived by her loving husband, Roger; her sons Scott and Marc; and her cherished grandchildren. She also leaves behind several nieces and nephews, all of whom held a special place in her heart, along with many dear friends who will miss her dearly.
In honoring Deborah’s memory, the family kindly suggests that donations be made to a charity of one’s choice. Her legacy of love and compassion will continue to live on in the hearts of those she touched.

David Allan Mills
David Allan Mills, 71, of Lyndonville, died on July 23, 2026 at Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital.
David was born on January 8, 1955, in Newport, to Robert and Theresa (Fugere) Mills. He attended St. Johnsbury Academy, graduating with the class of 1973 before beginning a 42-year career at Fairbanks Scales, retiring in 2018. He married Donna Ross on August 14, 1976, sharing nearly 50 years together before his passing.
David was a life member of the NRA and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and NASCAR racing. He was also an avid bowler and bowled with the same team for over 25 years. He also enjoyed spending time at camp in Bloomfield; it was always a special place for him and his remains will be scattered there.
David leaves behind his wife, Donna Mills of Lyndonville, daughters: Becky Masure of Kirby and Holly (Joshua) Pierce of Wheelock, grandchildren: Sawyer, Orin, Felicity, and Mack, and great-grandchildren: Wilder and Raelyn. He was predeceased by his parents, three infant brothers, and three infant sisters.

William Charles Rivard
A celebration of life was held for William “Bebe” Charles Rivard on Sunday, June 28. Bebe was born on April 6, 1950, in Newport to Gerard A. Rivard and Doris (Hussey) Rivard.
Bebe attended Sacred Heart Elementary and Sacred Heart High School. He sang in the Madrigals and excelled in sports: soccer, basketball, and baseball all four years. The team won championships in soccer and basketball. Bebe was offered a full boat scholarship to Villanova for basketball. He declined and enlisted in the Army to serve his country in 1968.
He came home in 1972 and started to work at the Grand Union stores as a meat cutter. He retired 29 years later from Grand Union in 2001.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, horseshoes, corn hole, and playing cards. The biggest joy of his life was his children and grandchildren. He loved watching them play sports.
Bebe is survived by his wife, Carolyne Norway Rivard, children: Cory Rivard, Joe (Sue) Rivard, Tammie Rivard, Daren (Brittany) Rivard, Nathan (Anna) Rivard; stepchild Sheila (Joe) Luty; grandchildren: Ethan, Avery, and Piper Rivard, Tyler and Kelsie Rivard, Danica Rivard, Dawson, Kambrie, Ryder, and Bristol Rivard, and another grandson on the way; step-grandchildren: Seth, Meriah, and April Luty; great-grandchild Emma Rivard and numerous nieces and nephews; sisters: Rosemary Hall and Susan Rivard; brothers: Ronald (Nellie) Rivard and Robert (Sue) Rivard; sisters-in-law: Ginnette Rivard, Diane Rivard, Virginia Davis, Gail Norway Daddario, Ruth Norway, and Donna Norway.
Bebe was predeceased by his parents, Gerard and Doris Rivard; brothers: Gerard Jr., Thomas and James Rivard; brothers-in-law: Douglas Hall and Guy Fortin; and sister-in-law Roberta Rivard.
