Cornhole — new sport finds a home in the Kingdom

DERBY — In the past couple years, a growing sport has started to draw a regular crowd at the Elk Lodge here.  Looking for an easygoing evening of good spirited competition, a growing crowd of people has started throwing bags at boards in the lodge’s banquet hall.  Orleans County Cornhole has established itself as a regular playgroup to use the space and, just like its host organization, has found ways to give back to others as they provide an atmosphere for people to enjoy.

The group was started by Michael Strauss, who wanted to keep playing the sport after moving to the area from Colorado.  A cornhole enthusiast out west, he was very active playing in groups before finding his way to Newport.
