IRASBURG — As is the norm in Irasburg, Town Meeting kicked off just after 6 p.m. on the first Tuesday in March. Voters gathered upstairs at the town hall following the community meal held downstairs an hour prior. Longtime moderator Ron Holland initiated the meeting, at which the first unofficial order of business was to hear from Mark Higley, one of two state representatives for the Orleans-Lamoille district.
Mr. Higley offered voters several hopeful updates, including that military pensions and survivors benefits, amounting up to no more than $125,000, have become exempt from taxation. He added that many Vermonters in the uniformed services retire young, and the exemption is an effort to encourage them to stay in the state and contribute to its workforce.
