Man pleads guilty to helping steal drugs

NEWPORT — Justin D. Peters, 34, of Newport pled guilty to being an accessory aiding in the commission of larceny from a person, a felony, and was sent to prison for one day by Judge Justin Jiron.

Newport City Police Patrolman James LeClair said in an affidavit that his department got many calls saying there had been gunshots near the intersection of Third and Prospect streets on August 25, 2022.

When he got there, Patrolman LeClair talked with several residents of the neighborhood all of whom said they heard four shots and a car left headed toward Main Street.  Patrolman LeClair was told by a resident of the street that she thought there were bullet holes near the top of one building….
