NEWPORT — A couple of items that had to be dealt with before the end of 2023 brought the city council back together for a special meeting on the morning of December 27. The main order of business was giving the Newport Fire Department the go-ahead to buy a piece of equipment.
Interim Fire Chief Kevin Lacoss told the council that cars have been redesigned since the department bought a device for extricating motorists trapped inside a car. As a result the Newport department could find itself unable to cut through a car’s center posts to lift off the roof and effect a rescue…
