EAST BURKE — Michael Goldberg, the court-appointed receiver who has been working to unravel the EB-5 fraud perpetrated by the former owner of Jay Peak Resort, appears to be coming to the end of his labors. On Friday he asked U.S. District Court Judge Darrin Gayles, who originally appointed him to oversee the repayment of defrauded investors, for authorization to sell Burke Mountain to a group of investors with strong ties to the area.
The sale means the receiver has sold the largest assets remaining in his portfolio. Judge Gayles authorized the sale of a property in Jay the day before Mr. Goldberg asked for permission to sell Burke.
The sale of Burke, and the former Bogner building, once planned to be the home of a bio-medical facility, appears to leave the former Spates Block on Main Street in Newport as the last major property in the receivership estate. Mr. Quiros bought the block …
