Orleans firefighters battle the blaze that consumed Cole and Heather LaBrecque’s farmhouse on Route 16 in Barton, Thursday morning, September 1. Orleans Fire Department Chief EJ Rowell said their home was a total loss, but no one was injured. Chief Rowell said Assistant Chief Jay Ratte was on the scene and called in help from Irasburg, Westmore, and Glover through Mutual Aid. The Newport City Fire Department sent down its air trailer, which was necessary as firefighters entered the burning structure to extinguish the fire. The Orleans Emergency Squad was on hand, but there were no injuries requiring its attention. Chief Rowell said a state investigation showed the fire was electrical in origin.
