NEWPORT — The company that owns Snapchat, a photograph-sharing and messaging application, filed a report with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children’s Cyber Tipline that, after investigation, led to the arrest of a Derby Line man. Detective Jesse Sawyer, a criminal investigator working for the office of the state Attorney General on the Vermont Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, submitted an affidavit to support a charge of luring a child and seven charges of possession of child sex abuse materials filed against Adam S. Barrup, 39, of Derby Line.
Mr. Barrup appeared in the Criminal Division of Orleans County Superior Court on April 1 and pled innocent to all eight charges. Judge Rory Thibault released Mr. Barrup on a $1,000 secured appearance bond and set conditions barring contact with children and restricting his use of the internet.
The charges against Mr. Barrup are being prosecuted by the state Attorney General’s office.
According to Detective Sawyer’s affidavit, Snapchat’s tip concerned one of its users and alleged child sexual molestation. The incident ….
