EAST BURKE — More than 40 people gathered at the Hotel Burke on August 19 to learn how legalization plans for cannabis production and sale are coming along.  The event, organized by Eli Harrington, one of the founders of Heady Vermont, a news website focused on cannabis, and currently a hemp farming consultant, brought together farmers and others to talk about the way ahead as Vermont moves toward a legalized market.

A panel that included Cannabis Control Board Commissioner James Pepper, who is one of those putting together permit rules for cannabis growers and merchants, State Senator Joe Benning of Lyndonville, who was one of those who led the push to legalize recreational marijuana in Vermont, Timothy Fair, co-founder and managing partner of  Vermont Cannabis Solutions, a law firm specializing in regulatory and other legal issues facing hemp and cannabis producers, and Amelia Machia, a nurse and Vermont medical marijuana patient.
