Burglary leads to drug and gun charges

NEWPORT —  A North Troy homeowner called police on July 23 to say someone had broken into his house while he and his wife were on a three-day camping trip.  According to Vermont State Police Trooper Anthony Rice the caller said he left home on July 19 and returned home around 4:30 p.m. on July 22.

According to the affidavit Trooper Rice submitted to support charges in the case, the caller said he didn’t notice anything amiss until 5 p.m. when they learned that someone had tried to cash one of their checks.  It was then they realized their home had been burglarized and $31,099 in cash and two check were missing, Trooper Rice said.

Trooper Rice said the caller’s wife showed him photos of the checks and the person who signed them, Darin Farley.  He said the man said he knows a Darin Farley who lived up the road from his house.  According to the affidavit, the caller had give Mr. Farley $80 about a week earlier.
