Heavy rains target Morgan

MORGAN — A group of storms hit the Kingdom early Tuesday morning, but unlike recent deluges they produced highly localized downpours.  Reports from the state’s alert system said roads were closed in St. Johnsbury, and a bridge in East Burke was washed out.

Closer to home, Route 111 in Morgan was closed at Water Street and Bridge 8 over Sucker Brook because of high water near the Seymour Lake Fishing Access.

Darlene Bowen, who lives on Toad Pond Road above Route 111, called the Chronicle to say she was wakened around 12:30 a.m. and heard heavy rain coming down.  Ms. Bowen said the storm kept up until just about daybreak.

She said she roused her husband to tell him to move the couple’s cars, but he fell asleep again. …
