Armand L. Bonvouloir Jr.

Doctor Armand L. Bonvouloir Jr., 83, died on Sunday, August 1, 2010, at his home in Newport.
He was born on July 6, 1927, in North Adams, Massachusetts, a son of Armand and Antoinette (Lemoine) Bonvouloir.
He attended Assumption College in Worcester, Massachusetts.  He graduated in 1950 and was later inducted into their basketball hall of fame.  At 18, he interrupted his studies and entered the U.S. Navy where he remained until he was discharged at the end of war.  He attended medical school at the University of Montreal, and followed that with a year of internship in the Navy in Newport, Rhode Island, and a year in hospitals in Montreal, Canada.
On June 12, 1954, he married Monique Paquin in Montreal.  He trained in surgery at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Hospital in Hanover, New Hampshire.  In January of 1961, he joined the Orleans Medical Clinic and North Country Memorial Hospital.  He was a member of the American Board of Surgery, the American Medical Association, the Vermont Medical Society, and the Orleans County Medical Society.
He dearly loved his profession, and for nearly 30 years remained dedicated to caring for people of the community.  He was devoted to his family and was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.  His interests were many:  horseback riding in the countryside, landscaping, reading, and traveling.  After retiring, he became an avid wood carver of a wide variety of birds, and he joined the square-dancing club.
He leaves his beloved wife of 56 years, Monique; his daughters:  Joanne and her husband, Dean Lawes, of South Burlington, Celine Ingalls and her special friend, Tim Riley, of South Burlington, Odette Bonvouloir and her husband, David McCullen, of Chesapeake, Virginia; his sons:  John and his wife, Annie, of Nederland, Colorado; Richard and his wife, Theresa, of Phoenix, Arizona; Jack (Claude) and his wife, Sandy, of Olympia, Washington; Paul and his wife, Claudia, of Goffstown, New Hampshire; his beloved grandchildren; three sisters:  Claire and her husband, Harry Wells, of Burlington, Antoinette and her husband, Bernard Garceau, of New Smyrna, Florida, and Louise and her husband, Edward Rougeau, of Dayton, Ohio.  A sister, Marcelle Van Vooren, predeceased him.
Mr. Bonvouloir’s sense of humor and genuine caring endeared him to many, and his kindness and compassion touched many lives.  He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, August 13, at the Curtis-Britch-Converse-Rushford Memorial Chapel at 37 Lake Road in Newport.  Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 14, at St. Theresa’s Church in Orleans with the Reverend Charles Davignon celebrating a Mass.

Catherine A. Davis

Catherine A. Davis, 89, a longtime resident of Albany, died peacefully on Wednesday, August 4, 2010, at the Manor in Morrisville.
Mrs. Davis was born October 25, 1920, in Craftsbury, a daughter of Irish immigrants John and Mary (Johnson) Ryan.
She was a 1938 graduate of Craftsbury Academy and in 1941graduated from the DesGoesbriand School of Nursing in Burlington as a registered nurse.  She worked at the Corinth Hospital in Corinth, New York, for one year then at the Fafner Bearing Company in Bristol, Connecticut, for two years.  In later years, she worked at the Orleans Memorial Hospital in Newport and the Bel-aire Nursing Home in Newport.  She retired from the Greensboro Nursing Home in 1993 after 18 years as a part-time night nurse.
She was married on October 30, 1943, to Malcolm R. Davis, in Barton.  They made their home in Albany where they raised two sons, Ross and Bob Davis.  Mrs. Davis worked with her husband at the Davis General Store in Albany, which they owned and operated from 1959 to 1983, as well as at the Malcolm R. Davis Funeral Home in Craftsbury Common, which they purchased with their son Bob in 1966.
Mrs. Davis was a member of the Albany Historical Society, a communicant of Our Lady of Fatima in Craftsbury, and recently earned her 55-year pin for membership in the Maple Valley Grange. She was active in the care of friends and neighbors in Albany and Craftsbury who were in need of assistance for medical reasons or just for a batch of her famous rolls.  Her love was her family.  She dedicated her life to her family, she loved to go and watch a basketball game, even if she couldn’t bear to keep her eyes open for all of it.  She loved going for rides whenever she could, and taking care of others.  She will be missed by all who knew her.
She leaves her sons, Ross Davis and his wife, Rita, and Robert (Bob) Davis and his wife, Louise, all of Craftsbury; five grandchildren:  Lynn Paradis and her husband, Ron, of Franklin, Julie Marckres and her husband, Steven, of Craftsbury, Lieutenant Colonel Stephen Davis and his wife, Michele, stationed in Germany; Valerie Adams and her husband, Karl, of Craftsbury Common, and Jeffrey Davis and his wife, Tammy, of Colchester; great-grandchildren Cody, Brian, Catherine, and Brandi Paradis, Kelly and Andrew Marckres, Sydney Flett, Andrew and Madison Davis, Kyle Adams, and Zachery and Anya Davis; two nieces, Frances Ferris Fredericks of East Hampton, Connecticut, and Rita Ryan Hill of Linden, Alabama; and their families and the extended Davis and Long families.
She was predeceased by her husband, Malcolm; her parents; a brother Leo Ryan; two sisters, Margaret Vincent and Madeline Ferris; nephew David Ferris: and great-nephew Alan Norris.
A Mass was celebrated on August 8 at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Craftsbury.  Interment followed in the Albany Village Cemetery.

Roger E. Fletcher

Pastor Roger E. Fletcher, 74, died on August 3, 2010.
He was born on January 30, 1936, in Orleans, a son of Lewis and Lila (Jewett) Fletcher.
He is survived by Frances Herman Fletcher, his wife of 54 years; by his children:  the Reverend Bruce Fletcher and his wife, Lisa, of Newington, Connecticut, Cindy and Norm Matthews of Bristol, Connecticut, Brian Fletcher and his wife, Amy, of Derby Line, Dan Fletcher and his wife, Rhonda, of Derby Line, David Fletcher and his wife, Denise, of Derby; by 20 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; his brother and sisters-in-law Allan Herman and his wife, Linda, Norman Herman and his wife, Patricia, Wendall Herman and his wife, Nancy, Barbara Wright and her husband, Ross, and by Betty Blair.  He was predeceased by his son Douglas on July 3, 1979, and by his great-granddaughter Caidence Joy Queenin on June 12, 2010.
The Reverend Fletcher was a well-known minister in the Northeast Kingdom.   He served the Freewill Baptist Church in West Charleston for eight years and the Brighton First Congregational Church for 18 years.  He conducted over 1,000 weddings and as many funerals during his ministry career.  His ministry was not limited to the churches he served; he viewed the entire Northeast Kingdom as his place of ministry.
Pastor Fletcher was a cemetery commissioner for West Charleston and Island Pond, and he was a former member of the Kiwanis and Lions clubs and the Island Pond Congregational Church.  As a young man, he worked for several area farms as well as working in the woods for five years.  He especially enjoyed driving a school bus in the Derby-Charleston area for over 16 years.  He served with the Vermont National Guard for 23 years.  He was also a member of the Charleston Fire Department for over 20 years and a long-time Red Sox fan.
He touched many lives and will be greatly missed.
Funeral services were held on August 6 at the Derby United Church with the Reverend Bruce Fletcher, the Reverend Fred Barker, and the Reverend Alan Magoon officiating.  Interment followed in West Charleston Cemetery with full military honors.

Emeline MacFall Isselee

 

Emeline MacFall Isselee, devoted wife, daughter, and mother, died peacefully at her home on Sunday, July 25, 2010, in Wilton, Connecticut, at age 92.
She was born in Greenwich, Connecticut, on August 27, 1917, a daughter of  Emma (Wilson) MacFall and David MacFall of Darien, Connecticut.
Mrs. Isselee graduated from Darien High School where she met her beloved husband, Ralph, who predeceased her on July 26, 2003. Following their marriage, they continued to live in Darien where they raised their family.
After retirement in 1977, Mr. and Mrs. Isselee moved to Westmore for 20 years before returning to Connecticut.
She spent her life devoted to family and friends.
Mrs. Isselee is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Janice and David Hapke of Wilton and Susan and John Lange of Winsted, Connecticut; and a large extended family including sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews.  She was loved as “Nonnie” by her seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church in Wilton at noon on Saturday, August 28.  A reception for family and friends will follow the service.  Mrs. Isselee will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband at Hillside Cemetery in Westmore.

Wendy Lee Judd

 

Wendy Lee Judd, 46, died at home in Sharon surrounded by her family on Tuesday, August 3, 2010, after a courageous six-year battle with breast cancer.
Mrs. Judd was born January 21, 1964, in Newport, a daughter of Duane and Beverly (Hardy) Willis.
She graduated from North Country Union High School in Newport in 1982 and later from the University of Vermont.  After her schooling, she moved to Wilder, where she began an accounting and bookkeeping business serving clients throughout the Upper Valley.  She later started and became co-owner of WAWECO auto repair in West Hartford with her brother and husband.  She remained committed to her businesses during her illness, even in the days before her death.
She was married to Colin P. Judd on March 16, 2003.  They lived in Sharon for the past four years.
She was an active bowler in the Upper Valley.  She was also an avid golfer as a member of the John P. Larkin Country Club in Windsor, where she served on the board of directors.   She enjoyed fishing, gardening, and traveling with her husband.  Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family especially at family functions.  She will be remembered as a devoted and loving wife, mother, sister, daughter, aunt and friend who had a smile for everyone and a commitment to her family until the last moments of her life.
She leaves her dedicated husband, Colin P. Judd, and her son Morgan D. Judd, both of Sharon; her parents, Duane and Beverly Willis, of Derby; her grandmother Thelma Willis of Derby Line; three brothers:  Wade Willis and his companion, Marilynn Scott, of West Hartford, Craig Willis and his wife, Christine, of Derby; Todd Willis and his wife, Cindy, of Derby; nieces Jessica and Abby Willis; nephews Kyle and Nicholas Willis; her mother-in-law Carol Anita Judd of Windsor; her father-in-law Arthur Judd and his wife, Carolyn, of Morgan; as well as several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.  She was predeceased by her grandparents Ethel and Jonathan Hardy, and Melvin R. Willis.
A memorial service was held at the Sharon Congregational Church with the Reverend Millie Reynolds officiating.  Private committal followed in the Pine Hill Cemetery in Sharon.

William “Bill” F. King

William “Bill” King, 71, a resident of Birchwood Terrace Healthcare in Burlington, died Monday, August 2, 2010, following an extended battle with cancer.
He was born in Hardwick, August 20, 1938, a son of the late Millard and Margaret (MacDonald) King.  He was named after his grandfathers, William Grant MacDonald and Francis Eugene King.
A 1956 graduate of Craftsbury Academy, he also graduated from the Vermont State School of Agriculture in Randolph as its valedictorian in 1957.  He served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps in North Carolina and Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, and was honorably discharged at 23 to help on the family farm after his father died in 1961. He returned to the University of Vermont to complete his bachelor’s degree in agriculture education in 1965, and in 1972 received his master’s degree in agriculture education from UVM.  He was a member of the Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity.
Mr. King taught agriculture in North Troy and at Peoples Academy in Morrisville.  He was involved with the UVM Extension Service in the development of the Lamoille County Field Days.
He leaves his son Jeffrey King, and his girlfriend, Colleen McCarty, of Irvine, California; his former wife, Addie Lou King, of Craftsbury Common; brothers Haven King and his wife, Barbara, of Milton, and Steven King of Burlington; sisters Gayle Kroeger of Craftsbury Common, and Karey Young of Essex Junction; an uncle Gordon MacDonald of Thousand Oaks, California; as well as seven nieces; five nephews; two grand-nieces; two grand-nephews; and other extended family.  He frequently referred to himself as “Uncle Bill.”
He was predeceased by his parents and a baby sister Kathryn in 1941; by his infant daughter Jennifer, who died in 1972; and by nephew Tim Young in 2004.
A memorial service was held August 9 at the United Church of Craftsbury in Craftsbury Common with Pastor Alan Parker officiating. Private interment was in the Craftsbury Common Cemetery with military honors.

John McLellan, 87, of Westmore, Sun City, Florida, and formerly of South Burlington, died in Florida on December 26, 2009.
A service of remembrance will be held at the Westmore Community Church lake property on Friday, August 13, at 10:30 a.m. with the Reverend Norman McFarlane officiating.
Mr. McLellan is the beloved husband of Mary McLellan who survives him.  Arrangements by the Curtis-Britch-Converse-Rushford Funeral Homes.
