Hurt people hurt people” is a phrase often heard. It suggests that abusers lash out due to their own pain and thus cause more to those closest to them.
Domestic abuse is a vicious cycle, and its reach is far, as one can see by thumbing through almost any newspaper. Though it’s not in every home, it’s in enough homes to bleed into the very fabric of American culture and society. Traditional methods of addressing domestic violence haven’t worked, or else the country would have seen a downturn in the behavior by now.
