Transgender Day of Visibility slated for Friday

NEWPORT— The NEK Rainbow Coalition will host a demonstration for the International Transgender Day of Visibility on March 31 in Newport in front of the Emory Hebard State Office Building.  The day is observed globally at 5 p.m. local time.

“We have people traveling from outside of the area,” Esme West said, “which was kind of surprising to me.”

Ms. West is one of the founders of the NEK Rainbow Coalition, and she said participants are coming from St. Johnsbury and Barre, because Newport’s Rainbow Coalition is the only group in the area outside of Burlington hosting a demonstration for the Transgender Day of Visibility.

“The NEK Rainbow Coalition started when a couple of queer people, myself and one other, met by happenstance,” Ms. West said……..
