Sheep lose their winter coats

NEWPORT CENTER – It’s time to shear the sheep for summer.  Their coats are getting long and feeling heavy and hot, with temperatures reaching over 80-degrees several days already this year.  Wesley Nutting, the owner of Woolenwood Farm is going through the process of shearing his flock now, taking up the shears between shifts at his regular job as a nurse practitioner at North Country Hospital.

Mr. Nutting owns 17 sheep at the moment, seven of them lambs.  That means ten sheep are getting a haircut this spring…
