RuralEdge invites all to a Newport Crossing apartments leasing event from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. on Wednesday, May 27. Anyone who is interested in leasing a unit is welcome to stop by 119 Clermont Terrace, Newport, for application assistance and upon completion, a brief tour of either or both properties.

RSVPs are not necessary, but encouraged. Please reach out to (802) 535-3555 to confirm your attendance. To apply in-person, please bring the identifying documents included in the link below. Although this event is reserved for potential renters, a public open house and groundbreaking ceremony are scheduled for this summer.

Interested community members can also apply for Newport Crossing apartment units by visiting ruraledge.org/apply or requesting a paper application by calling (802) 535-3555.

In total, the properties will provide 40 new units for Vermonters in the Newport area, while remediating two brownfield sites. The Newport Center properties feature newly built family-sized townhouse units and smaller garden flats just doors from the Newport Town School. The renovated historic Sacred Heart Convent features smaller units with big views adjacent to existing neighborhoods and an easy walk to downtown. Newport Crossing properties bring new housing security and opportunity to Orleans County residents. These permanently affordable homes feature amenities like electric vehicle chargers, indoor tenant storage units, outdoor bike racks, lake views, and community rooms.

RuralEdge builds permanently affordable homes by leveraging federal and private investments in addition to state funds. Thanks to these diverse investments, Newport Crossing units are considered affordable and do not have associated rental subsidies. Most rents are set from $933-$1,343 per month including heat, hot water, electric, A/C, trash removal, parking, property-wide Wi-Fi, and on-site laundry. There are multiple levels of qualifying incomes, so all interested community members are encouraged to apply.

This event is co-hosted by the Northeast Kingdom Collaborative, a regional nonprofit dedicated to building a vibrant and thriving Northeast Kingdom of Vermont. As a neutral convener for the region, the collaborative has identified housing as one of the most urgent and unifying priorities facing the NEK. In response, the organization launched the Housing Hubbub, a consistent space for connection, information sharing, and collaboration among everyone working toward housing solutions. — from RuralEdge.
