NEWPORT — Police say a Newport woman hit a man with a pole hard enough to raise welts and kicked them as they tried to arrest her.
According to an affidavit from Newport City Police Patrolman Andrew Gonyaw, police were called to Third Street around 9:10 p.m. on October 1, by a woman who phoned to say she could hear screaming from a nearby building.
Patrolman Gonyaw said his colleague Patrolman Jonathan Morin was there when he arrived, standing on a porch speaking with Lillian Wright, 19, of Newport and a man. …
