NEWPORT — Around 40 people gathered Monday evening in the assembly room of the Goodrich Memorial Library here to discuss the recently unveiled development plan for the city. Before the conversation got started members of the public milled around among poster-sized renderings showing places that buildings could be erected to provide business space and housing in Newport’s downtown.
The plan, like the gathering, was largely sponsored by Newport Downtown Development, and the meeting began with an explanation of how the state’s designated downtown program works from Rick Ufford-Chase, the director of the downtown organization.
