NEWPORT — The city council labored for over two hours Monday night, mostly in executive session, before delivering a new fire chief — John Harlamert.
Council members spent the remaining hour of their three-and-a-half hour meeting hearing about the Newport City Elementary School budget for 2020-2021, dealing with a few E-911 address changes, and engaging in a surprisingly bitter discussion of the Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday.
