Newport City Council meeting devolves into heated dispute

NEWPORT — Monday evening’s city council meeting started with a discussion of the Vermont Land Trust’s plans for Bluffside Farm and a vote to fund another round of Music on the Waterfront.

What began as a placid conversation about plans for the city’s betterment took a jarring turn, however, when City Manager Laura Dolgin and Mayor Paul Monette accused a council member of telling tales out of school, and refused to consider her denial.

Julie Raboin, who saw in her council packet a notice saying the council would go into executive session for “Corrective Action” against her, asked that the matter be heard publically.
