NEWPORT — After Adam Warner, a 36-year-old Wolcott resident, pled guilty to three felonies Judge Rory Thibault sentenced him to a three-to-five-year prison term. Mr. Warner admitted charges of first-degree aggravated domestic assault, obstruction of justice, and second-degree unlawful restraint.
The state dismissed charges of first-degree domestic assault with a weapon, second-degree aggravated domestic assault by a person with a prior conviction for a similar offense, and a misdemeanor charge of domestic assault.
In his affidavit, Newport City Police Patrolman Colin Sykes said that around 10:23 a.m. on November 29, 2025, the department’s dispatcher was told that a woman was possibly being held hostage in Newport. A man called police and said a relative texted him and said she was being held at knifepoint by Mr. Warner. The text said Mr. Warner told the woman he would stab her if police showed up.
The woman sent a photo of herself covered in bruises to the man, who called police and she also texted 911 to say she was ….
