NEWPORT — Vermont State Police Trooper Logan Miller said a Brownington man called around 6:30 p.m. on May 12, to say his father showed up at his house and warned him that Michael A. Riendeau Jr., 45, of Newport Center, was on drugs and shooting a shotgun around. Trooper Miller’s affidavit says the caller then barricaded himself inside his home.
Trooper Miller said he checked on Mr. Riendeau’s conditions of release and found they included a prohibition on buying, having, or using any firearms, and an order that he not abuse or harass two named people in any way.
The affidavit says the conditions were imposed after Mr. Riendeau pled innocent to charges of aggravated assault, reckless endangerment, and domestic assault that involved a firearm in January 2025. It said the man who delivered the warning said he has been staying at a trailer because he doesn’t want to be near Mr. Riendeau, whose behavior has become increasingly violent.
