At their March 11 meeting, Lake Region Union High School Board members responded to allegations that they have been dismissive of issues of racial equity, and heard a public apology from Michael Sanville, Irasburg’s representative, regarding recent comments he made. Members of the public also spoke up about the experiences of their own children of color within the school system.
In February, the board was presented with a letter written by Karen Ceraso and signed by 136 individuals and organizations throughout the community that called on the board to do a better job acknowledging and responding to racism and its impact on school climate.
