NEWPORT—William Prue, the instrumental music teacher at North Country Union High School took a sabbatical this school year. Rather than jamming with friends or just kicking back for a year, Mr. Prue spent his time traveling to different schools on a mission to discover different ways to build community. Speaking briefly about his experience Monday, Mr. Prue admitted to checking out schools’ music programs as well.
After seeing a variety of models, Mr. Prue came up with an idea he hoped might work for North Country and on May 22, it was put into effect. He said the North Country Celebration of Learning produced results far exceeding his expectations.
Visitors to the high school that day found hallways crammed with students, teachers, and parents who roamed between tables showing off the academic and outside interests of students. …
