JAY — When Jay residents met for Town Meeting in March it was clear the untypically large amount of money in the account and holding delinquent tax penalties would be something of an issue. A handful of citizens asked how the account had grown to hold more than $132,000.
Others questioned the criteria under which the funds could be spent. Voters amended the budget, using funds from the account to reduce the burden on taxpayers, but the decision did not sit well with some citizens and enough of them signed a petition asking to revisit the topic at a special Town Meeting.
