Greensboro residents say their piece

GREENSBORO — Monday evening Moderator Tim Nesbit asked the more than 100 people gathered in the Greensboro United Church’s Fellowship Hall to be civil in discussing plans to put 20 affordable housing units in the town’s old high school building.  By and large his request was honored by those who spoke, but an edge of anger threatened to come to the surface more than once during the two-hour meeting.

A group of residents went to the select board meeting held on July 24, presented a petition signed by 180 people, and asked for a public forum on the proposal to sell the building to RuralEdge, the Kingdom’s housing agency, for conversion to apartments.  Members of the board suggested the meeting be held on that day only if representatives from the state agencies that provide money for such projects could attend to provide information.

Most of the 20 or so people at the July 24 meeting rejected that proposal, saying they were not looking for more information about the project, but rather wanted to make sure the select board was fully aware of their opposition to the project…
