David and Mary Jane Hoadley of Lowell got a phone call on the morning of January 18 from a relative.
“There are a bunch of dead cows in a barn in Brownington,” he said. “I hope they’re not yours.”
“I hoped so, too,” Ms. Hoadley said in an interview last week.
The Hoadleys said they had yet to receive a nickel of the $2,000 monthly payment that Donovan Steele had promised when he bought 36 cows from them at the end of October.
