NEWPORT — The North Country Union High School Falcons finished up their season at home on a high note, overcoming Champlain Valley Union High School on Friday, February 27. North Country, ranked fourth in their division as they entered the match, faced the fifth ranked Redhawks. The two teams hit the court with the state championship as their goal, but the Falcons proved to be the best in their nest and worthy of heading on to the semifinals.
The Falcons got the game started with an explosive first quarter. Sophomore Farrah Pepin was the first to put hands on the ball, casting the rock down from the tipoff in North Country’s favor. Pepin found a quick path to the net within ten seconds, scoring the first two of 19 opening points. Senior team captain Addie Nelson sank triple three-point shots, as well as finding two layups. She also scored two points shooting from the foul line, making Nelson the Falcon to garner the most points in any quarter of the match.
