The girls of Lake Region Union High School faced off against the visiting Lady Ghosts of Randolph Union High School Friday. It was a contest that roused both visiting spectators and local fans alike. While the Rangers rushed to a lead in the first and second periods, they were seriously challenged by the Ghosts in the second half. Tension continued to rise as each moment passed, but the home team held out in the long run. The game also marked a memorable occasion for a visiting athlete who reached a milestone worth commemorating, whether achieved by a teammate or an opponent.
The match started with the Lady Ghosts’ Ella Messier swatting the tipoff down to her waiting teammates. She went up for a layup, but her attempt was quashed, and the Rangers took three points on the rebound. Lake Region’s Abbygail Warriner was behind the ball on the points, the first of a flurry of three-pointers the sophomore guard sank. The Rangers took the court at all ranges sending up volleys of shots from inside and behind the three-point line. The first quarter ended with 19 points for the Rangers and 11 for the Lady Ghosts.
Lake Region moved even farther out in front of the competition during the second quarter. Rangers Tilly Veysey and Rylee Knights were able to sink a couple of three-pointers. Warriner, freshman forward Harley Scelza, and ….
