NEWPORT — Lake Region and North Country union high schools are long-time rivals. North Country has more students than Lake Region and plays in a higher division, but many years their teams are evenly matched.
Not so far this year, at least as far as the girls are concerned. The Falcons are the reigning champions of Division II basketball, while the Rangers are in rebuilding mode after losing some excellent players to graduation in June.
When the two teams met Thursday, the signs were not auspicious for the visiting Rangers. They have had a rough season, without a win so far. Lake Region has yet to find its new stride without its old leaders. The Falcons on the other hand have had only a single loss,…..
