Dean Gonyaw, working hard for pony pulling season

Dean Gonyaw’s father, Ferd Gonyaw, Reg Switzer, Fred Gray, and Leand Drew started the pony pulling club in 1965 in Burke.

Dean Gonyaw got his first team together in 1968 after getting out of the Army and has been pulling every year since then.

Getting ready for the pulling season takes up a lot of work every day — taking the ponies out and exercising them to build up their muscles. Their feet also must be taken care of, so they don’t get stone bruises. They also have special shoes they must pull in. Dean has always done his own shoeing. Many people see ….
