BARTON — At the Central Orleans Family Education Center (COFEC), one man shows up to ensure students and staff arrive at a safe and clean school each and every day. For about six years, Sam Boucher’s mornings have started bright and early at 4 a.m. All on his own, he turns over the 10,000 square foot building, handling trash and recycling, and deep cleaning bathrooms, sinks, floors, and touch points. The facility has three classrooms, one-on-one spaces, office spaces, a lunchroom, a conference room, and other areas that have to be not just clean, but safe, for everyone’s arrival at 7:45 a.m. With a deeply rooted passion in helping kids live their best lives, and some Daft Punk blasting through the speakers, Mr. Boucher gets through his meticulous morning routine with a positive attitude. And his work hardly ends there.
On Friday, what started as a typical morning ended in a sweet surprise for Mr. Boucher, who thought he had been called into the school for a routine clean-up. Expecting one of the usual messes involving a bucket and a mop, he was ….
