NEWPORT — Around 9:20 a.m. on September 25, Governor Phil Scott and his cabinet took their seats under one of the three shelters that make up Tent City, the temporary classrooms set up behind North Country Union High School. The partition that on most school days separates the space into two classrooms had been removed to accommodate the tables around which the state officials sat as well as several dozen students who crowded in to see and hear them.
The occasion was “Capital for a Day,” an event instituted by Governor Scott in which he and the members of his administration travel to one of Vermont’s 14 counties and spread out to visit businesses, farm, schools, and other sites that are connected with their official duties.
In addition, the Governor, secretaries, and department heads, hold meetings to discuss issues of local concern.
As part of the 2024 visit to Orleans County, Mr. Scott made the high school the first stop on his tour. …
