BARTON — When Barton Village voters decided not to sell their electric department to the Vermont Electric Cooperative (VEC) they probably didn’t anticipate seeing their rates go up by 28 percent in a single year. Still less did they anticipate them skyrocketing another 21 percent with 7 percent increases in each of the following three years.
That appears to be the situation facing those on Barton’s lines, a category that includes people in the town of Barton, Brownington, Westmore, and Irasburg.
