Bernie’s Kingdom boogie

HARDWICK — Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders invited hundreds of his constituents to the Hazen Union gym on Saturday for an evening of live music and dancing.  The event, which was the second dance the senator has hosted this year, was attended by people of all ages, many of whom were unabashed in their support of Mr. Sanders.

The festivities kicked off with music from the Peavine Boys who played originals and covers of rock and country classics.  Some took to the floor once they heard the first notes, but many lingered on the bleachers in anticipation of their host.

Senator Sanders arrived soon after, and was immediately surrounded by dozens of his supporters eager to shake his hand or merely see him up close.  The gym at the high school is of average size for sports games and assemblies, but it took the senator several minutes to make his way through the crowd and onto the small stage where he delivered opening remarks.

“So why is a U.S. Senate office hosting a dance?” Mr. Sanders asked. …
