Transition room offers a path to drug rehab

NEWPORT— People who are addicted to alcohol and other drugs sometimes realize they want to stop using during a trip to a hospital emergency room.  Unfortunately, that isn’t always the best place to start on the road to recovery.

Emergency rooms are designed to save lives and deal with problems that need immediate attention.  Once patients are stabilized, they may be shifted to a hospital bed for further treatment, or, if further treatment is not necessary, be sent home.
