One woman’s week as a “food stamp tourist”

GLOVER — I was hungry, but not in the way I had expected.  In the seven days I documented my experience living on the average food stamps budget, I didn’t run out of food, but I was constantly worried about it.  I had to be so thoughtful and conservative with food that I was sometimes even anxious.  The anxiety surprised me, and I came to understand hunger as a psychological state as much as a physical one.
