NEWPORT — The sign on the door of Andre “Mark” Desautels’ Main Street store that for the past month informed potential visitors that he and some employees did not choose to wear masks is gone. In its place is a request for contributions to a defense fund to help Mr. Desautels fight a lawsuit filed by the Vermont Attorney General’s office.
That’s not to say Mr. Desautels has changed his attitude. The original sign is now posted inside the store, now called Derby Port Press, and the donations sign anticipates the possibility that he will soon be paying fines for his beliefs.
