ALBANY — Brock and Eric Columbia grew up on a dairy farm in Troy. Both wanted to farm on their own but didn’t, largely because it’s a daunting proposition these days.
“You can’t even get into farming now,” Eric said. The startup costs alone are prohibitive, he said.
Eric went on to work as herd manager at Nelson Farms, where he still works but only feeding cows, he said. And Brock works at the U.S. Department of Agriculture Farm Service Agency in Newport.
